CONSOLIDATED Bakeries Limited on Friday launched its Support Life, Fight Breast Cancer campaign, which will see part proceeds of the sale of its Purity Hearty Goodness 100% Whole Wheat Bread being donated to the Jamaica Cancer Society in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness month.
The organisation has gone a step further and has made changes to the packaging of the particular bread, with it now boasting pink to replace it’s usual red colour and it being marked with the pink ribbon representing breast cancer.
Executive Director of the Jamaica Cancer Society Yulit Gordon endorsed the effort, stating that the partnership is welcomed in the effort to increase the level of awareness in consumers.
“We continue to appeal to women to do monthly breast self examinations and to visit the Society to get their mammograms done,” Gordon said at the launch which was held at the Consolidate Bakeries Limited Retail Outlet in St Andrew.
Gordon also said,” Breast cancer poses a major public health issue and a threat to national economic and social development for Jamaica. One in 21 women will be diagnosed with breats cancer which continues to be the leading cause of cancer-related deaths among Jamaican women.”
The funds to be donated through the Support Life, Fight Breat Cancer campaign will go towards assisting women with mammograms.
